چکیده
An investigation of habitat preference for larval breeding sites by Aedes (Diptera: Culicidae) mosquitoes which occur around human dwellings in Ishigakijima and Taketomi-jima Islands revealed that Ae. albopictus Skuse 1894 preferred pools in tires and boats and was distributed widely from the coast, inland. Although Ae. riversi Bohart & Ingram, 1946 and Ae. flavopictus miyarai (Tanaka et al, 1979) shared tree holes as larval breeding sites, Ae. riversi was collected near the ocean whereas Ae. flavopictus miyarai was collected inland. Ae. togoi Theobald, 1907 was collected near the coast and strongly preferred boats. Our study showed that habitat preference was different between four species of Aedes mosquito in Ishigaki-jima and Taketomi-jima Islands.

Role Of The Construction Industry In Promoting Mosquito Breeding In And Around The Accra Metropolis, Ghana
A wide range of water-holding containers are exploited by mosquito vector as sites for oviposition of eggs and larvae development. The study was aimed at determining the role of the construction industry in promoting mosquito breeding in and around the Accra metropolis, Ghana. A two-month larval survey was carried out at selected construction sites in and around the Accra metropolis. Routine da...
متن کاملLandscape and land cover factors influence the presence of Aedes and Anopheles larvae.
The objective of this study was to test for associations between land cover data and the presence of mosquito larvae of the genera Aedes Meigen and Anopheles Meigen in northern Thailand at the landscape scale. These associations were compared with associations between larval habitat variables and the presence of mosquito larvae at a finer spatial scale. Collection data for the larvae of one Aed...

Guppies as predators of common mosquito larvae in Malaysia.
Observation on predation activities of guppies (Poecilia reticulata) on the larvae of three species of mosquito, namely Aedes albopictus, Aedes aegypti, and Culex quinquefasciatus was carried out under laboratory conditions. Male and female guppies were used as predators for predation experiments on the 4th instars of mosquito larvae. The daily feeding rates comparing male and female guppies on...
متن کاملAn unusual larval collection and survival of Orthopodomyia signifera in the presence of the predator Toxorhynchites rutilus septentrionalis.
From a discarded heavy-equipment tire (ca. 57 liter) at an industrial construction site, we collected 655 (86.0%) Orthopodomyia signifera, 23 (3.0%) Toxorhynchites rutilus septentrionalis, 17 (2.2%) Aedes japonicus japonicus, and 67 (8.8%) Culex pipiens pipiens. Although larvae of Aedes albopictus and Aedes triseriatus were not collected from this container, both species were prevalent as host-...
